Deniz is a dual-qualified energy and project finance lawyer with over 11 years of experience.
He joined Alcazar Energy after spending four years at SunEdison where he worked as the Head of Legal for MENA and Turkey. As part of the senior regional team, Deniz was responsible for all legal aspects of the projects developed by the company in the region – from origination and acquisition, through financing, construction and operation, as well as the sale of the company’s assets. He was involved in the 220 MW Egyptian portfolio, the acquisition of five utility scale solar energy projects in the UK, and the development of a scalable distributed generation program in Turkey.
Before SunEdison, Deniz worked in private practice at the largest Austrian law firm, Wolf Theiss. As a member of the law firm’s Energy and Projects, M&A and Banking and Finance groups, he advised a number of banks, multinational companies and private clients on their investments in Central and Eastern Europe. More notably, he was the legal coordinator for a 60 MW solar project in Bulgaria, the largest power plant in the country; advised a large investment group on the acquisition of Bulgarian Telecommunications Company’s television and radio broadcasting business, one of the largest acquisitions and a landmark deal in the broadcasting market in the region; took part of the team advising South Stream joint venture company on the USD 20bn undersea section of the famous pipeline project.
Deniz holds a master’s degree in International Business law from King College London in addition to a master’s in Bulgarian law. Having obtained an FIDIC certificate he is also experienced in negotiating complex construction contracts. Deniz has a number of publications and research papers in the field of joint ventures and public private partnerships.
